The Academic Curriculum
Before joining EBHS
We work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure the transition into EBHS is smooth and learning can continue at a fast pace. Children from our primary schools regularly visit us for curriculum days in a wide variety of subjects. In addition, our Pastoral Team works closely with Year 6 teachers to ensure that children are well looked after as they start their time with us at EBHS.
During Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3)
Our students study the full range of subjects in Years 7 to 9, including English, maths, science, the arts, PE, technology, humanities and languages. All students study both French and German before specialising in one language in Year 9 which they can then choose to study at GCSE level.
During Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4)
Our curriculum is tailored to the needs of the individual student and provides the widest choice of subjects possible, whether this is an academic pathway or a more practical route. Students select from a wide range of subjects that reflect their own particular strengths and interests. At the heart of our curriculum is the desire for our students to achieve the very highest level of success.
In addition to securing the best academic qualifications, we also encourage students to develop the skills which will allow them to move into the next stage of their education. We work with a range of providers including Suffolk One, Colchester Sixth Form College, Suffolk New College and Colchester Institute as well as other schools in the area. Many of our students move onto higher education or apprenticeships.
